Comparison on Perceived Nursing Needs between Patients with Chronic Respiratory Disease and Nurses Caring for Them

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of study was to compare perceived nursing needs between patients with chronic respiratory disease and nurses caring for them.
Method: The participants were 60 patients who were having chronic respiratory disease and 60 nurses from one general hospital. Data was collected from Sep. 26 to Oct. 15 in 2009 through questionnaire. Frequencies, mean, and t-test with SAS version 9.13 program were used to analyze the collected data.
Results: The score for perceived nursing needs between patients who were waiting for discharge and followed up at OPD and nurses was significant differences, but did not show significant differences in score during admission except physical nursing need, The score of nurses was higher than that of patients consistently.
conclusion: During admission, the patients with chronic respiratory disease perceived to meet therapeutic needs and those who were at discharge and O.P.D follow-up perceived to meet emotional needs and then educational informative needs above all things. These results will be provided to improve the quality of nursing care plan and intervention for patients who require continuous respiratory treatment.
